The Importance of a Digital Portfolio for Homeschoolers
It is my opinion that homeschooled students wanting to enter the field of art or media need an excellent body of 9 to 12 works for college entrance or freelance work in art and media. They need documented experiences of being a part of art and media activities.
Digital portfolios accurately represent the student’s individuality and skills for academic and professional opportunities. They can be presented to colleges for scholarships or companies for freelance work.
It is my opinion that having an art show of the work they have created in the portfolio is important as well.
Digital portfolios can be considered the new resume.
Benefits of Digital Portfolios
There are numerous benefits to having a digital portfolio. Below are a few:
- Digital portfolios help students become independent learners.
- Digital portfolios foster independence while fueling reflection, creativity, and authentic lifelong learning.
- Digital portfolios work wonders for tracking and assessing student growth and are an invaluable way to provide constructive feedback.
- Digital portfolios can help students share their work with peers, parents, teachers, and the world.
Notes of Gratitude
Here is just one of many letters I have been fortunate enough to receive from former students:
