Make A Change for the Better in Your Homeschool for Your 2(e) Learner
In our introductory blog post, we introduced you to the world of twice-exceptional or 2e learners. We guided you through the evaluation process as outlined on our Advocacy Page.
We also offered encouragement and resources to help you ensure your family complies with your state’s homeschool regulations and requirements.
In our last post, we reminded you that no one is better suited to home-educate your child than you.
Today, we remind you to think “outside-of-the-box,” with your teaching approach and curriculum.
Out-of-the-Box Thinking for the Win
Do you want to know what is one of my favorite things about being a homeschool parent?
FREEDOM!
Freedom looks like different things to different people, but essentially it all boils down to the same thing – The Power of Choice.
Granted, my family and I live in a very FREE state when it comes to rules and regulations for homeschoolers. (Thank you, Texas!)
Yet, even if you live in a state with a bit more red tape, you still have options.
In this post, I want to encourage you to explore those options when it comes to not only what you teach your children, but how you teach them.

If schools can modify curricula and make accommodations for learning, why not homeschoolers?
And when we do?
We can do it even better.
Changing Our Minds
When we first began our homeschooling journey, I was enamored with The Well Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer. While I am still a big fan of classical education, by year three, we had run into some roadblocks with this program and we needed a change.
In the video below, I share our experience:
Toss out any notions you have of needing to follow directions exactly as they are written (well a science project is an exception to this rule) or the need to remain loyal to a certain homeschool style or method.
Likewise, completing all the problems on the page, finishing the book, or searching for the “Holy Grail” of “perfect fit” curricula.
Let go of unrealistic expectations to free your mind and you will make space for real learning to occur.
