Sprinkle A Little Salt and Let Your Love Light Shine This Giving Tuesday
Introverts Unite (Separately, In Our Own Homes, Of Course)
I love online shopping.
From groceries to socks to toothpaste, if I can purchase it with the click of a mouse or the tap of my pointer finger and have it delivered to my front door, I might never leave my house again.
Homebody tendencies are a family trait. Yet, there are a few days out of every year when I tend to press add to cart with a bit more frequency.
By now I should own stock in Amazon.
Fellow “Prime-nesia” sufferers, I see you. 😉
Amazon Prime Days aside, Cyber Monday is another big shopping day in our house.
After securing some snazzy deals in person on Black Friday and pajama-clad purchasing from the comfort of your home on Cyber Monday, what better way to celebrate than by paying it forward?
Welcome to Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday
GivingTuesday is movement that unleashes the power of radical generosity around the world.
GivingTuesday reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity.
Our global network collaborates year-round to inspire generosity around the world, with a common mission to build a world where generosity is part of everyday life.
Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give.

While Giving Tuesday is a global movement, the designated day in the United States is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
Homebody Helpers
Other than keeping bills paid and my family clothed and fed, I also use cyberspace for charity contributions. Whether tithing to our church, sponsoring our Compassion International child in Burkina Faso, honoring those who have served through Tunnel to Towers, providing funds for disaster through Samaritan’s Purse, or rounding up the total on our electric bill to name a few, the bulk of our charitable contributions are given online.
Every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor out, or showing up for an issue or people we care about, we each have something to contribute. Identify your gifts, pick a cause that gets you fired up, and give back. Each seemingly small act turns a ripple into a wave of good, transforming society and building the world we all want to live in.

Serving in Person
Not all of our service efforts are from the comfort of our home. We also volunteer our time serving at church and in our community. Giving Tuesday is not just limited to online giving. There are multiple ways to participate.
Need a little help finding service opportunities in your area? Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
Church Serve Teams. If you belong to a church, consider joining the Serve Team, a group of worshippers committed to volunteering in the community. Grow in your faith, develop close friendships, and help those in need all while bonding with brethren.
Experience the Great Outdoors. Have a taste for adventure? Love nature? Consider Volunteering with an Outdoor Ministry, such as Wilderness Adventure Ministry or Wilderness Trek. If you have kids, get them involved in Trail Life USA or American Heritage Girls. Both are mentor-led, faith-based, scouting-style programs that promote faith, character-building, community, and service. Trail Life USA is for boys from kindergarten through 12th grade, while American Heritage Girls is for girls of the same age range. Outreach is integral to both of these programs.
Get More Social With Your Social Media. I will be the first to admit that I like to unwind with humorous content on Instagram. (Thank you Darling on a Dime, your content is faith-based comedy gold.) Yet, I also use my social media to give shout-outs and feature charities in need.
JustServe. Overwhelmed with the steps of trying to research all of the different possible service opportunities in your area? No problem. JustServe has just what you need to get you started. JustServe acts as a sort of “middleman,” aligning volunteers with community agencies in need of assistance. There are even opportunities you can take part in from the comfort of your own home! Sign up to volunteer and let them help match you with an organization near you.
Mission Trips. Love to travel? Consider signing up for a mission trip. (Bonus points if you have a trained skill to offer such as nursing or therapeutic rehab.) Some of our favorites are Blessings Bags International and H.earts I.n M.otion, but a quick online search will reveal a plethora of opportunities.
