Does Your Family Feel Lost At Sea? Counseling Can Help!

No one is an island.

Relationships are a basic want and need in life.

But sometimes navigating these waters can be tricky. So where do we turn for help?

Launching the Lifeboats

The Center for Counseling & Family Relationships, or CCFAM for short, was launched in 2007 by Dr. Rhonda Johnson, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Registered Play Therapist.

After earning her doctorate in Psychology/Counseling in 2003, Dr. Johnson entered into private practice. By 2007, when CCFAM was founded, she had earned supervisor status in these mental health disciplines as well.

An Anchor in the Storm

Fostering healthy relationships in our lives requires effort. Sometimes we need support to show us how to ebb and flow. When the seas become choppy, we can take comfort in knowing there are trained professionals readily available to help us handle the crests and troughs.

Although inevitable (and sometimes scary), unforeseen events can make us feel as though life is aimlessly tossing us about. In the midst of this ever-churning ocean, we feel helpless and directionless. When we are weathering the storms of life, we need something (or someone) to cling to.

The Center for Counseling & Family Relationships provides such an anchor for families.

What CCFAM Offers

Since its inception in 2007, CCFAM has grown both in number of clinicians on staff and in its ability to reach diverse populations. CCFAM offers individual, couple, and family counseling services for children, adolescents, and adults addressing a myriad of mental health and relational concerns.

But that’s not all.

Professional helpers need guidance and training to learn and grow, too.

In addition to traditional counseling services, Dr. Johnson is an approved Continuing Education Provider for clinicians. Specializing in ethics and supervision, Dr. Johnson and her trainers at CCFAM conduct workshops on a variety of topics from Play Therapy Training, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Trauma-Based Relational Intervention, Creative Interventions with Teens, Exploring Gender Identity with Adolescents, Art Play Therapy, and Pepare/Enrich to name a few.

Both training and therapy sessions are offered on-site/in-house and/or virtual.

Dr. Johnson also offers consulting services where she supervises and advises other clinicians on their professional licensing, professional clinical supervisor, or private practice development journey. So strong was her passion for mentoring other clinicians in the world of mental health leadership that it inspired her to write her debut book, Pace Setter: Leadership and Culture in Mental Health.

Plentiful Provisions for the Journey

CCFAM also offers a plethora of resources to help families who are struggling to find their bearings.

Dr. Johnson particularly has a heart for foster and adoptive families. As an adoptive parent herself, she knows firsthand the unique challenges adoptive families face.

In addition to therapy sessions for the entire family, CCFAM offers workbooks to help families prepare and adjust to adding new family members either through foster care or adoption.

These resources are reasonably priced and available for download at CCFAM’s website. Additional adoption support resources can be found here.
