The Homeschool Quest: A Traveling Companion for Your Family’s Homeschool Journey

Back to (Home) School

It’s August, the time of year when many homeschooling families are gearing up for the start of a new academic year.

Whether your classroom is of the traditional sort with desks lined in neat little rows, or the cozy kind with lessons taking place at the family kitchen table, a comfy couch, a porch swing, the living room floor, or a neighborhood park on a sunny day, as homeschoolers we all share a common purpose – teaching our children.

Out of this purpose comes passion, the humble willingness to answer a higher calling to serve one’s family. In often unfamiliar waters, we forge ahead in faith. We are riding both the crests of success and navigating the choppy waters of trials. The sailing is not always smooth and the seas are not always calm.

But for our children, we journey on.

Part of this homeschool quest includes meeting fellow traveling companions along the way. Through these encounters, we find our tribe. Friendships to encourage and comfort. Relationships that help us grow.

If you have my blog posts or listened to one of my podcast episodes, then you are acquainted with some of my favorite phrases, such as “always learning, always growing,” “education is a journey, not a destination,” and “sprinkle a little salt and let your love light shine.”

Today’s post has roots in yet another saying I use with both frequency and fondness, “there is great comfort in community.”

In honor of National Back to (Home)School Month, we are delighted to showcase an outreach organization supporting homeschoolers through the creation of community. We are honored to shine our August Salt & Light SERVE Spotlight on The Homeschool Quest.

The Homeschool Quest provides FREE and affordable resources, free online classes, educational support, and encouragement. Founded by working homeschool parents of five, Janet and Landy DeField, The Homeschool Quest was born out of the common desire we all share, the need for human connection.

Janet and Landy DeField have spent the last twenty years running a marketing agency and homeschooling 5 kids from pre-K to high school and beyond. Now, they have teamed up with three of their daughters, Amelia, Isabelle and Jasmine, and their son, Nathan, to help homeschool families around the world find free and affordable resources, curriculum, and more. They are passionate about encouraging homeschool parents that homeschooling on a budget IS possible.

What The Homeschool Quest Offers

The DeField Family understands their audience well. Working with the knowledge that many homeschool families are single-income families, they created a beautiful community dedicated to supporting fellow homeschool families in their endeavors to home-educate their children purposefully and practically.

We believe that educating your children can be affordable, so all resources we share are free or under $30.

Join the Quest

The DeField Family recognizes the power of having a village. None of us are islands. None of us can be all things to all people all the time. To attempt to do so is at best an exercise in futility, and at worst, a recipe for disaster or failure.

The Homeschool Quest welcomes fellow homeschool families to answer the call of service and join in the shared adventure that is homeschooling.

If you’re a homeschooling parent, you know how important it is to have a supportive community. The Homeschool Quest gives families the opportunity to connect with other homeschoolers and offers resources for successful homeschooling.

If you want to support what we are doing, please consider volunteering your time! Volunteering not only helps our group grow and thrive, but it also provides an excellent opportunity for veteran homeschoolers to get involved.
